Junior Infants January and February Activities....

17th Feb 2026

Time has flown since we came back in January. It was wonderful to welcome the class back, ready to begin some new learning adventures. We have especially enjoyed having artist Claire Halpin in the classroom as part of the Creativity in the Classroom programme, where we explored working with clay and expressing our creativity. We also had a fantastic trip to the Lexicon Library in Dún Laoghaire.

In January, we learned all about Antarctica and the South Pole, discovering how penguins live in such cold conditions. Pyjama Day helped us get cosy and imagine what it might be like to stay warm in icy weather!

We loved celebrating Science Week. We watched 5th and 6th Class experiment with turning on lights powered by potatoes and making homemade lemonade using crystals. Inspired by penguins, we became scientists ourselves and made our own “blubber” to investigate how penguins keep warm in freezing seas. We also enjoyed coding with Beebots — a big thank you to Blackrock Education Centre for lending them to us.

There have been many wonderful birthday celebrations, with lots more to look forward to!

We have had great fun staying active — learning to play Unihoc, dancing our hearts out in Hip Hop, practising skipping skills, and getting outside for morning exercise as part of February Fit Farm (even braving the rain!). Inspired by the story Handa’s Surprise, we tasted different fruits and even made our own delicious smoothies.

In SPHE, we have been learning about feelings and exploring activities from the Lust for Life programme to help build resilience. We especially enjoyed trying “Hot Chocolate Breathing” and “Wriggle, Wriggle.”

Book Buddies every Tuesday with 5th Class has been a fantastic reading experience. It has been lovely to see the friendships and bonding that grow through sharing stories and books together.

Of course, we made delicious pancakes with lots of tasty toppings to celebrate Pancake Tuesday, and we created beautiful Chinese lanterns to mark Chinese New Year.

Now it’s time for a short mid-term break before we move on to another busy and exciting half-term ahead!
